გავრილოვის მაგალითი მაინც არ გვქონდეს! არ შეიძლება ოკუპაციის კანონის და პარტნიორების მიერ დაწესებული სანქციების გაუთვალისწინებლობა, რადგან ამან ერთი მხრივ შესაძლოა გამოიწვიოს ქვეყნის შიგნით პროტესტი და მეორე მხრივ უთანხმოება ჩვენს უახლოეს და სტრატეგიულ პარტნიორებთან. ასევე გაუგებარი და შეურაცხმყოფელია, როცა შენივე ქვეყნის მმართველი ძალა ქსენოფობიას გაბრალებს. ჩვენს ისტორიას ასეთი ბრალდება არ ახსოვს. ბრალდება ქვეყნის მიმართ, რომელმაც საუკუნეების მანძილზე შემწყნარებლობით და სტუმართმოყვარეობით გაითქვა სახელი. ეს ყოველივე არა მხოლოდ წარსულითაა დამტკიცებული, ქართველ და ებრაელთა 26 საუკუნოვანი თანაცხოვრებით, არამედ დღესაც, როცა ოკუპანტი ქვეყნიდან უსიტყვოდ მივიღეთ და ვაცხოვრებთ 80 000-მდე იმიგრანტს და მთელი ამ დროის განმავლობაში არცერთი სერიოზული ინციდენტი არ ყოფილა. ეს ბრალდება ასევე სახიფათოა ქვეყნის უსაფრთხოებისთვის, რადგან ყველამ კარგად ვიცით და გვახსოვს, რომ რუსეთი მეზობლებზე თავდასხმებს რუსულენოვანი ხალხის დაცვით ამართლებს. დამოუკიდებლობა, რომელსაც დღეს ვზეიმობთ, სახელმწიფოსგან საკუთარი მოქალაქეების დაცვასაც გულისხმობს. სახელმწიფოებრიობა ისაა, როცა ქვეყანა წესებით და კანონებით იმართება. ესაა სახელმწიფო მიდგომა, რომელიც ყველაზე უნდა ვრცელდებოდეს. ამიტომ გაუგებარია, რატომ არანაირი ზომა და სამართლიანი რეგულაციები არაა მიღებული რუსეთიდან მასიურად შემოსულებისთვის და მათი საქმიანობისთვის, განსაკუთრებით კი ისეთ სფეროებში როგორიცაა ჯანდაცვა და განათლება. ან თუნდაც უძრავი ქონების შეძენა და დაწესებული გადასახადების გადაუხდელობა. ასევე გაუგებარი გახდა ჩვენი საგარეო პოლიტიკა, კონსტიტუციაში კი ევროპაა ჩაწერილი. ყოველდღიური განცხადებები და ქმედებები კი ევროპისგან გვაშორებს და იზოლაციისკენ მივყავართ. ისმის კითხვა: სად გაქრა სიტყვები, „ევროპა ჩვენი ცივილიზაციური არჩევანია“? ჩვენ ვექიშპებით და ვლანძღავთ ჩვენს მეგობარ და პარტნიორ ქვეყნებს. ქვეყნებს, რომლებმაც 30 წლის მანძილზე დახმარების ხელი გამოგვიწოდეს, დაგვეხმარნენ სახელმწიფოს მშენებლობაში და ჩამოყალიბებაში. სამაგიეროდ კი მათ, ვინც ჩვენი ტერიტორიის ოკუპაციას ახდენს დღემდე, ვეგებებით და ვუფრთხილდებით. ჩვენმა წინაპრებმა, დიპლომატია, დაბალანსებული პოლიტიკა და სიფრთხილეც კარგად იცოდნენ, თუმცა ეს ღირსებას და პრინციპულობას მოკლებული არასოდეს ყოფილა. არ არსებობს ხალხი, რომელსაც ომის არ ეშინია. ომის სისასტიკე ჩვენსავით, ცოტამ თუ იცის და ცოტას თუ ესმის, მაგრამ საკუთარ საზოგადოებაში შიშის გაღვივება (რაც ადვილია იმ ქვეყანაში, რომელსაც უამრავი შემოსევა და დაპყრობა ახსოვს) ან ამით მანიპულირება ვერ გახდება წარმატებული მართვის ფორმულა. ყველასთვის გასაგები, რომ იყოს, რასაც ვგულისხმობ გავიხსენოთ იმედზე გასული ომის მოდელირებული ქრონიკა. გაუგებარი და შეურაცხმყოფელია, როცა დღეს ვითვლით, თუ რამდენ მილიონს მოგვიტანს „ფრენების საჩუქარი“. ნუთუ ჩვენი ღირსება 200 თუ 300 მილიონად იყიდება?! და ახლა ამ ტრიბუნიდან მინდა მივმართო გიორგი ანწუხელიძის და გიგა ოთხოზორიას ოჯახებს. მე, როგორც ამ ქვეყნის უმაღლესი მთავარსარდალი ბოდიშს გიხდით იმ შეურაცხყოფისთვის, რომელიც არა მხოლოდ თქვენი, არამედ მთელი ქვეყნის შეურაცხყოფაა! გაუგებარია, როცა ევროპას და ამერიკას ყველაფერს აბრალებ, მეორე ფრონტის გახსნის მცდელობას, „ქართველობის წართმევას“, გარყვნილებას და მაინც, საკუთარ შვილებს ევროპასა და ამერიკაში უშვებ. საქართველოში კი ახალ თაობას ევროპულ მომავალს უსპობ. დღეს ის დღეა, როცა ამ ყველაფერზე უნდა დავფიქრდეთ, ვეძებოთ გამოსავალი და დავიბრუნოთ მომავლის იმედი. სიძულვილის ენამ, დაპირისპირებამ ურთიერთგაგება და პატივისცემა შეცვალა. ეს სახელმწიფოს ასუსტებს. ვაჟას სხვა სიტყვებიც უნდა გვახსოვდეს: „ციხე როს შიგნიდან ტყდება, მაშინ იმარჯვებს მტერია“. სწორედ ესაა ქართველობის დაკარგვის საფრთხე.... ჩვენივე ხელით და ჩვენივე ნებით. ჩვენი ისტორიის მქონე ერმა, როგორ უნდა დაიჯეროს, რომ რუსეთის პოლიტიკა შეიძლება ვინმეს კარგ ან ცუდ საქციელზე, ან რომელიმე კარგ თუ ცუდ განცხადებაზე იყოს დამოკიდებული, ყველაფერზე გარდა საკუთარი ინტერესისა? რა იყო უკრაინაზე დამოკიდებული, როცა რუსეთმა ომი დაიწყო? ვინც ფიქრობს, რომ რუსეთი ტერიტორიებს დაგვიბრუნებს ჩვენი დათმობების სანაცვლოდ, მას ჩვენი ისტორიიდან არაფერი უსწავლია. ან კიდევ როგორ დავიჯეროთ, რომ ოკუპანტი შეიძლება ჩვენი თანამემამულეების კეთილდღეობაზე ზრუნავდეს? ნუთუ გვავიწყდება ჩვენს მოქალაქეებს, აფხაზეთში, ცხინვალში, ვინ ავიწროებს და ვინ იტაცებს? კარგად ვხედავთ დღეს ვინ ცდილობს უკრაინის ოკუპაციას და იმასაც ვხედავთ, რომ მსოფლიო იცვლება, რუსეთის უძლეველობის მითი დამსხვრეულია და ხვალინდელ გეოპოლიტიკურ სივრცეში აღარ უნდა არსებობდეს ოკუპირებული ტერიტორიები. დღეს 26 მაისია და ჩვენ უკრაინელ მეგობრებს მინდა ვუსურვო ქვეყნის გამარჯვება და გამთლიანება. ამ ახალი მსოფლიო წესრიგის მოლოდინში დღეს ჩვენი საზოგადოება, როგორც ხელისუფლება გზაგასაყარზეა. საზოგადოებამ თავისი სიტყვა თქვა და გამოხატა თავისი ნება - საქართველომ უნდა გააგრძელოს დამოუკიდებლობის გამყარების და გამთლიანების, ევროპული დემოკრატიის ჩამოყალიბების და ევროპულ ოჯახთან შეერთების გზა. ნათელია, რომ საზოგადოება არ დათმობს საკუთარი შვილების მომავალს, არ დათმობს თავის ევროპულ არჩევანს. დემოკრატიის პირველი წესია, რომ უნდა შეასრულო ის, რისთვისაც ხალხმა აგირჩია. ქართველ ხალხს, ყველა ხელისუფლება ამ პირობას აძლევდა. დღევანდელმა ხელისუფლებამაც ქართველ ხალხს ეს პირობა მისცა და მეტიც კონსტიტუციით გაამყარა ევროინტეგრაციის გზა. დღეს, როცა ქართველი ხალხი ისევ ამ გზაზეა და ითხოვს მისი ნების აღსრულებას ხელისუფლება სადაა? ხელისუფლებისთვის დრო აღარ ითმენს, რომ დაუბრუნდეს საკუთარ სიტყვას, გამოცხადებულ მიზანს და შეასრულოს ხალხისთვის მიცემული პირობა. ხელისუფლებამ ამ დარჩენილ დროში უნდა იფიქროს, იმაზე თუ რისი შესრულება შეუძლია, არა იმიტომ, რომ ვინმე გვკარნახობს, არამედ იმიტომ, რომ ეს ქვეყნის სამშვიდობოზე გაყვანის გზაა და ამას ალტერნატივა არ გააჩნია. დღეს საზოგადოებისთვის სასოწარკვეთილების და უიმედობის დრო ნამდვილად არაა. ქართული საზოგადოება ეროვნული ინტერესების და ღირსების დასაცავად უკან არასოდეს იხევდა და ეს უახლოესმა ისტორიამაც გვაჩვენა. ახლა მთავარია, ყველამ ერთად დავინახოთ და გავიაზროთ ეს გარდაუვალი ცვლილებები, ვირწმუნოთ საკუთარი თავის და არავის მივცეთ უფლება ჩვენი გზიდან გადაყვანის. 31 მაისს, სწორედ ამ ევროპული მომავლისთვის ჩავალ ბრიუსელში. თქვენთან ერთად ბოლომდე ვიბრძოლებ, რათა დავიცვა ჩვენი ევროპული მომავალი. ევროპა გაიგებს ქართველი ხალხის ხმას, იმ ხალხის ხმას, რომელიც ერთგულია 26 მაისის სულისკვეთების და რომელიც განსხვავებული მოსაზრებების მიუხედავად ერთიანდება, ერთი იდეის ირგვლივ - ჩვენი დამოუკიდებლობის და იმის, რომ ჩვენი ხვალინდელი დღე ევროპაა. გილოცავთ დამოუკიდებლობის დღეს! Bonne fête de l’indépendance à tous! Aujourd’hui, c’est le 26 mai, jour de l’indépendance, le jour où vous prêtez serment et avec ce serment, vous déclarez votre loyauté et votre dévouement inébranlables à la Géorgie. Aujourd’hui, vous rejoignez l’armée géorgienne - une armée qui sert de pilier de l’indépendance et de la souveraineté du pays. Votre présence ici aujourd’hui est le signe qu’aucune de nos luttes pour la liberté n’a été vaine. Notre armée témoigne l’endurance et de la stabilité de notre État. Cette armée a montré de multiples exemples de dévouement et de professionnalisme dans les missions de maintien de la paix au-delà des frontières du pays. Le 26 mai est le jour où nous exprimons notre gratitude envers l’armée géorgienne et nous rendons tous ensemble hommage à tous les héros tombés au combat de tous les temps et de tous les lieux à ceux qui ont lutté pour l’indépendance et l’intégrité territoriale de la Géorgie. Aujourd’hui, nous ne pouvons pas éviter de mentionner les 15 hommes courageux, qui ont combattu contre l’occupation soviétique sous le commandement du général Kote Abkhazi et ont été fusillés il y a 100 ans, le 21 mai 1923, à 04h30 du matin. Depuis 100 ans se sont écoulés, cependant, ils n’ont pas encore reçu de sépulture ni de décoration tombe et la garde d’honneur C’est pourquoi, à l’occasion du centième anniversaire, j’ai pris l’initiative pour chacun d’eux de de leur attribuer l’Ordre de Héros National. Aujourd’hui encore, cet écho résonne dans l’esprit de notre société. Ce jour n’a pas été créé par lui-même. Pour que le 26 mai ait lieu, nos ancêtres ont consacré leur vie à la cause de l’indépendance, se sont sacrifiés et n’ont épargné aucun effort. Nous, les Géorgiens, connaissions à la fois l’autodéfense et le dévouement. Nous connaissions la valeur de la liberté et de la paix. Nous avons compris qu’ils sont inséparables. Les Géorgiens n’ont jamais voulu vivre dans l’ombre d’aucun pays et n’ont jamais cherché à conquérir ou à être hostiles à un autre pays. Même les 70 ans d’occupation soviétique et l’interdiction de commémorer le 26 mai n’ont pas réussi à annihiler l’idée d’une Géorgie indépendante. Personne n’a jamais été capable de tuer la soif d’indépendance et de liberté parmi les Géorgiens. Au contraire, plus ils se battaient contre nous, plus l’esprit d’indépendance et la détermination de la société devenaient forts. Nous sommes arrivés à ce jour avec cette dignité, ces principes et cette conscience. Sous la pression de l’Empire russe, malgré la russification totale et la suppression de l’autocéphalie de notre église par le « frère coreligionnaire », malgré la destruction des fresques, nous avons réussi à préserver simultanément la langue et la foi. Le 26 mai n’est rien d’autre qu’une manifestation de cet esprit. Un jour où nous devrions être fiers de notre passé et nous préparer à un avenir meilleur pour la nouvelle génération! Une journée de célébration et de profondes aspirations. Nous assistons à une fête et à un beau spectacle. En attendant, j’aimerais que notre société célèbre aussi en esprit, en étant assurée que le responsable défend vraiment ses citoyens, renforce le pays, construit une Géorgie libre, indépendante, démocratique et honorable, et ne ménage aucun effort pour le faire. Le sentiment d’espoir s’exprime également lorsqu’aujourd’hui, nous observons comment les Abkhazes défendent la terre et les biens de notre pays. L’espoir naît quand nous voyons que les Géorgiens là-bas font face à toutes sortes de harcèlement et ne renoncent ni à la langue géorgienne ni à ce qui les rend géorgiens. Nous sommes remplis de fierté quand nous regardons notre population vivant sur la ligne d’occupation et malgré les conditions les plus difficiles, ne se rendent pas à l’ennemi car les enlèvements ne parviennent pas à les intimider et à les chasser de leurs maisons. Et aujourd’hui, notre espoir le plus grand est notre société, qui a montré au monde à tous moments son unité, sa position de principe, sa solidarité avec l’Ukraine, sa tolérance et son attachement au choix européen et à ses valeurs. Chacun doit prendre en considération la force et la détermination de cette société, car elle représente notre avenir. Il est incompréhensible et insultant pour notre peuple que notre gouvernement ne pense pas à l’honneur et à la dignité de ses propres citoyens. Il est incompréhensible et insultant de confier à nos policiers une tâche impossible et de les mettre au défi. Nous comprenons tous très bien qu’un pays avec des territoires occupés et une armée russe sur son territoire doit donner la priorité à la défense de la stabilité. C’est pourquoi, il est du devoir du gouvernement de prévenir les situations qui mèneront sans aucun doute à des troubles et à une escalade. Plutôt que de tester la patience de son propre peuple, ne gouvernement est chargé de la prévention. Le gouvernement est responsable de la protection du territoire et de la gestion de la frontière. Il est important de savoir qui entre et sort du pays. Il est difficile de croire que des membres de la famille du plus haut cercle politique du pays occupant sont entrés dans le pays sans autorisation préalable ni garanties de sécurité. Tout en appelant constamment à la paix et à la prudence, personne au sein du gouvernement a-t’il prévu le danger d’escalade ? C’est comme si nous n’avions pas fait l’expérience de l’exemple de Gavrilov ! La loi géorgienne relative aux les territoires occupés et les sanctions imposées par les partenaires ne peuvent être ignorées, car elles entraîneront des protestations à l’intérieur du pays, d’une part, et des désaccords avec nos partenaires stratégiques, d’autre part. Il est également incompréhensible et insultant que le président du parti au pouvoir accuse le peuple géorgien de xénophobie. Notre histoire ne porte pas les traces d’une telle accusation. Une accusation contre le pays qui, au fil des siècles, a été réputé pour sa tolérance et son hospitalité. Tout cela est prouvé non seulement par le passé avec la coexistence de 26 siècles de Géorgiens et de Juifs, mais aussi par le présent, où nous acceptons et permettons inconditionnellement jusqu’à 80 000 immigrants du pays occupant de résider. Aucun incident grave n’a eu lieu pendant tout ce temps. Cette accusation met également la sécurité du pays en danger, car (nous le savons tous et nous nous en souvenons tous) la justification de la Russie pour ses attaques contre les voisins est la protection de la population russophone. L’indépendance que nous célébrons aujourd’hui implique également la protection des citoyens contre leur propre État. Un pays régi par des lois et des règlements est ce qui constitue le statut d’État. Cela devrait s’appliquer à tout le monde .
Par conséquent, il est incompréhensible qu’aucune mesure et adéquate réglementation n’ait été adoptée pour l’immigration massive en provenance de Russie et les activités, en particulier dans des domaines tels que la santé et l’éducation, ou même l’acquisition de biens immobiliers et le refus de payer les impôts imposés. Notre politique étrangère est également devenue floue, alors que l’Europe est inscrite dans la Constitution. Les déclarations et les actions quotidiennes nous éloignent de l’Europe et nous conduisent à l’isolement; la question se pose: les mots « L’Europe est notre choix civilisé » ont-ils disparu? Nous ergotons avec nos pays amis et partenaires et les insultons; Des pays qui, depuis 30 ans, nous ont tendu la main et nous ont aidés à construire et à former l’État. Au lieu de cela, nous accueillons et saluons ceux qui occupent nos territoires. Nos ancêtres connaissaient bien la diplomatie, la politique équilibrée et la prudence, mais elle n’a jamais été privée de dignité et de principes. Il n’existe aucun pays ou d’homme qui n’aient pas peur de la guerre.
Seuls certains d’entre nous pourraient connaître et comprendre la brutalité de la guerre. Cependant, allumer la peur dans votre propre société (facile dans un pays qui se souvient de tant d’invasions et de conquêtes) ou la manipuler ne peut pas être une formule pour une gouvernance réussie. Pour que les choses soient claires, souvenons-nous du faux reportage de guerre sur TV Imedi. C’est incompréhensible et insultant quand on compte aujourd’hui combien de millions apporteront « le don des vols ». Notre dignité est-elle vraiment vendue pour 200-300 millions ?! De cette tribune, je veux m’adresser aux familles de Giorgi Antsukhelidze et de Giga Otkhozoria. En tant que commandant en chef suprême de ce pays, je m’excuse pour l’insulte, qui n’est pas seulement la vôtre, mais celle de tout le pays! C’est incompréhensible quand vous accusez l’Europe et les États-Unis : de tentative d’ouvrir un deuxième front, « dépouillé de leur géorgianité », dépravés, et pourtant vous envoyez vos propres enfants en Europe et aux États-Unis Aujourd’hui est le jour où nous devrions réfléchir à tout cela, chercher une solution et retrouver espoir pour l’avenir. Le discours de haine et la confrontation ont remplacé la compréhension et le respect mutuels. Cela affaiblit l’État. Nous devrions également rappeler les paroles de Vaja (Pchavela N.D.T): « Quand la forteresse se brise de l’intérieur, c’est alors que l’ennemi gagne ». C’est la vraie menace de notre géorgiannité... de nos propres mains et par notre propre volonté. Comment une nation considérant notre histoire peut-elle croire que la politique de la Russie peut dépendre d’une bonne ou d’une mauvais déclaration d’autrui ou de quoi que ce soit ne dessert que ses propres intérêts son propre intérêt? De qui dépendait l’Ukraine, quand la Russie a commencé la guerre ? Celui qui pense que la Russie nous restituera nos territoires en échange de nos concessions n’a rien retenu de notre histoire. Comment croire que l’occupant peut se soucier du bien-être de nos compatriotes ? Avons-nous oublié nous qui opprime et enlève nos citoyens en Abkhazie, Tskhinvali? Nous voyons très bien aujourd’hui qui essaie d’occuper l’Ukraine et nous voyons aussi que le monde change. Le mythe de l’impénétrabilité de la Russie est brisé et il n’y a pas d’espace de territoires occupés dans le monde de demain. Aujourd’hui, C’est le 26 mai et je tiens à souhaiter à nos amis Ukrainiens la victoire et l’unification de leur pays. Dans cette attente du nouvel ordre mondial, aujourd’hui, le gouvernement, la société sont à la croisée des chemins. La société a parlé et exprimé sa volonté pour la Géorgie de poursuivre sur la voie du renforcement de son indépendance, de l’établissement de la démocratie européenne et de l’adhésion à la famille européenne. Il est clair que la société ne renoncera pas à l’avenir de ses enfants et ne renoncera pas à son choix européen. La règle numéro un de toutes les démocraties est que chaque gouvernement a promis au peuple géorgien de réaliser cette volonté. Le gouvernement actuel a également fait cette promesse au peuple géorgien et, en outre, a renforcé la voie de l’intégration européenne avec la Constitution. Aujourd’hui encore, le peuple géorgien se trouve sur cette voie, et où en est le gouvernement? Vous devez répondre au souhait du peuple qui est de leur montrer pour quoi vous avez été élu. Il est temps pour le gouvernement de tenir sa parole, à affirmer son objectif déclaré, et de tenir la promesse faite au peuple. Le gouvernement devrait réfléchir à ce qu’il peut mettre en œuvre dans le temps qu’il lui reste, non pas parce que quelqu’un nous l’impose, mais parce que c’est la seule façon de mener le pays vers la sécurité. Il n’est plus temps de désespérer ou de déprimer. La société géorgienne n’a jamais reculé face à la sauvegarde de ses intérêts et de son honneur national ; l’histoire récente nous l’a également prouvé. A présent, il est essentiel pour nous tous de voir et de comprendre ces changements inévitables, de croire en nous-mêmes et d’empêcher quiconque de nous dévier du droit chemin. Je me rendrai à Bruxelles le 31 mai pour cet avenir européen et à vos côtés, je me battrai jusqu’au bout pour protéger notre avenir européen. L’Europe entendra la voix du peuple géorgien, la voix du peuple loyal au 26 mai et qui, malgré ses opinions différentes, est uni autour d’une idée - celle de notre indépendance et que notre avenir appartient à l’Europe. Mr. Prime Minister, Mr. Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Minister of Defense, Georgian Army, American Military, Honorary Guests from Azerbaijan and Lithuania, Members of the Government and the Parliament, Members of the Constitutional Court, Chairmen of the Autonomous Republics of Abkhazia and Adjara, Representatives of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Members of the Diplomatic Corps and Representatives of International Organizations, Our compatriots abroad, Happy Independence Day to all! Today is May 26th, Independence Day, the day you take your oath and with this oath, you declare your unwavering loyalty and devotion to Georgia. Today, you are joining the Georgian army - an army that serves as a pillar of the country’s independence and sovereignty. Your presence here today is a sign that none of our struggles for freedom have gone in vain. Our army is a definite sign of our state’s endurance and stability. This army has shown multiple examples of devotion and professionalism in peacekeeping missions beyond the borders of the country. May 26th is the day when we express our gratitude towards the Georgian army and all of us together pay our tribute to all the fallen heroes of all times and places that have fought for the independence and territorial integrity of Georgia. Today, we cannot avoid mentioning the 15 brave men under the command of General Kote Abkhazi, who fought against the Soviet occupation and were shot 100 years ago, on May 21, 1923, at 04:30 in the morning. 100 years have passed, however, they are yet to receive the grave and the honor guard. That is why, on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary, I introduced the initiative for each of them to receive the Order of National Hero. Kote Abkhazi’s words have been inscribed in our memories and echo the spirit of Ilia, Vazha, Akaki, Niko, and others: “We have to be facing the west, we have to be turned facing the Black Sea”. Even today, this echo resonates with the spirit of our society. This day was not created by itself. In order for May 26 to occur, our forefathers dedicated their lives to the cause of independence, sacrificed themselves, and spared no effort. We, Georgians knew both self-defense and devotion. We knew the value of freedom and peace. We understood that they are inseparable. Georgians never adhered to living under the shadow of any country nor did they aim to conquer or be hostile towards another country. Under the pressure of the Russian Empire, despite total Russification and the cancellation of the autocephaly of our church by the “coreligionist brother”, despite the destruction of the frescoes, we have managed to preserve both the language and the faith. Even the 70-year Soviet occupation and the ban on commemorating May 26 failed to annihilate the idea of an independent Georgia. No one has ever been able to kill the thirst for independence and freedom among Georgians. On the contrary, the more they fought against us, the stronger the spirit of independence and society’s determination became. We have come to this day with this dignity, these principles, and this consciousness. May 26th is nothing but a portrayal of this spirit. A day when we should be taking pride in our past and preparing for a better future for the new generation! A day of celebration and elevated feelings. We have a celebration and a beautiful spectacle. In the meantime, I wish our society were also celebrating in spirit, being assured that the one responsible is truly defending its citizens, strengthening the country, building a free, independent, democratic, and honorable Georgia, and not sparing any effort in doing so. Today is May 26th and it should be a day of national pride. A day of dedication and honor. If we possess a sense of hope, it is thanks to the youth who with talent, hard work, and determination, have managed to make Georgia renowned whether in sports, culture, or the world's leading universities. I believe that along with free thinking and initiatives, they will ingrain knowledge and professionalism, and create new perspectives for the country. The sense of hope is also expressed when today, we observe how Abkhazians are defending the land and the property of our country. Hope arises when we see that Georgians there are coping with all kinds of harassment and are renouncing neither the Georgian language nor that makes them Georgian. We are filled with pride when we look at our population living at the occupation line and despite the most difficult conditions, they do not surrender to the enemy as abductions fail to intimidate and drive them out of their homes. And our most important hope today is our society, which has shown the world at all the right times its unity, principled stance, solidarity with Ukraine, tolerance, and commitment to the European choice and its values. Everyone has to take into consideration the strength and determination of this society, as it represents our tomorrow. But today, this society has also felt mixed feelings of misunderstanding and insult. It is incomprehensible and insulting to our people when our government does not think about the honor and dignity of its own citizens. It is incomprehensible and insulting when we give our police an impossible task and put them up to a challenge. We all understand very well that a country with occupied territories and a Russian army on its territory must prioritize the defense of stability. This is why, it is the duty of the government to prevent situations that will undoubtedly lead to unrest and escalation. The government is tasked with the responsibility of prevention, rather than testing the patience of its own people. The government is responsible for protecting the territory and managing the border. One should know who enters and leaves the country. It is hard to believe that family members of the highest political circle of the occupying country entered the country without any prior warning or security guarantees. While constantly appealing for peace and caution, has no one in the government foreseen the danger of escalation? It is as if we have not experienced the example of Gavrilov! The Law of Georgia on Occupied Territories and the sanctions imposed by the partners cannot be disregarded, as it will lead to protests within the country on the one hand, and disagreements with our strategic partners on the other. It is also incomprehensible and insulting when the chairman of the ruling party accuses the Georgian people of xenophobia. Our history has no record of such an accusation. An accusation against the country that throughout the centuries has made a name for its tolerance and hospitality. All of this is proven not only by the past with the 26-century-long coexistence of Georgians and Jews, but also by the present, with us unconditionally accepting and allowing to reside up to 80 000 immigrants from the occupying country. No serious incident has taken place throughout this entire time. This accusation also puts the country’s security in danger, as (we all know and remember that) Russia’s justification for its attacks on neighbors is the protection of the Russian-speaking population. The independence that we celebrate today in itself entails the protection of citizens from their own state as well. A country being governed by laws and regulations is what constitutes statehood. This is what thinking for the state looks like and should be applicable to everyone. Therefore, it is incomprehensible why no measures and just regulations have been adopted for mass immigration from Russia and activities, especially in areas like healthcare and education, or even the acquisition of real estate and the refusal to pay imposed taxes. Our foreign policy has also become unclear, while Europe is inscribed in the Constitution. Everyday statements and actions distance us from Europe and lead us toward isolation; the question arises - where did the words “Europe is our civilized choice” disappear? We quibble with and insult our friendly and partner countries; countries that for 30 years have extended their helping hands and helped us in building and forming the state. Instead, we welcome and greet those who occupy our territories. Our ancestors knew diplomacy, balanced politics, and caution well, however, it was never deprived of dignity and principles. There is no country or a man that is not afraid of war. Only a few might know and understand the brutality of war like we do. However, igniting fear in your own society (easy in a country that remembers so many invasions and conquests) or manipulating it cannot be a formula for successful governance. For everyone to be clear about what I mean, let’s remember the fake war report on TV Imedi. It is incomprehensible and insulting when we count today how many millions will “the gift of flights” bring. Is our dignity really sold for 200-300 million?! And from this podium, I want to address the families of Giorgi Antsukhelidze and Giga Otkhozoria. As the supreme commander-in-chief of this country, I apologize for the insult, which is not only yours but that of the whole country! It is incomprehensible when you blame everything on Europe and the US: the attempt to open a second front, “stripping away of being Georgian”, wickedness, and yet you send your children to Europe and the US. Yet in Georgia, you destroy the European future for the new generation. Today is the day when we should think about all of these, look for a solution, and regain hope for the future. Hate speech and confrontation replaced mutual understanding and respect. This weakens the state. We should also recall Vazha’s words: “When the fortress breaks from within, then the enemy wins”. This is the real threat of losing being Georgian… with our own hands and will. How can a nation with our history believe that Russia’s politics can depend on someone’s good or bad behavior or on anything other than its own interest? What depended on Ukraine, when Russia started the war? Anyone who thinks that Russia will return our territories in exchange for our concessions has not learned anything from our history. Or how can we believe that the occupant can care about the well-being of our compatriots? Do we forget who oppresses and abducts our citizens in Abkhazia, Tskhinvali? We see very well today who is trying to occupy Ukraine and we also see that the world is changing. The myth of Russia’s impenetrability is shattered and there is no space of occupied territories in tomorrow’s world. Today is May 26th and I want to wish our Ukrainian friends victory and unification of their country. In this wait for the new global order, today, like the government, society is at a crossroads. The society has spoken and expressed its will for Georgia to continue the path to strengthen its independence, establish European democracy, and join the European family. It’s clear that society will not give up the future of their children and will not give up their European choice. The number one rule of all democracies is that you have to fulfill the wish of the people for what you’ve been elected for. Every government gave this promise of fulfilling this very will to the Georgian people. The current government also gave this promise to the Georgian people, and moreover, has strengthened the Euro-integration path with the Constitution. Today too, the Georgian people stand on this path, and where is the government? It is time for the government to revert to its given word, its declared purpose, and fulfill the promise given to the people. The government should think about what it can implement in the remaining time, not because someone dictates, but because this is the only way of leading the country to safety. There is no time for hopelessness and despair. Georgian society never backed down from protecting its national interests and honor, and this has been showcased in recent history as well. Now it is essential for all of us to see and understand these inevitable changes, believe in ourselves, and prevent anyone from deviating us from the path. I will be traveling to Brussels on May 31st for this European future and alongside you, will fight to the end to protect our European future. Europe will hear the voice of the Georgian people, the voice of the people who are loyal to May 26 and who despite their different opinions, are united around one idea – that of our independence and that our future belongs in Europe.
